Off Limit Areas

There are only few places that are off-limits to visitors of Camp Big Mac.

Please note that the Shooting Range at the Camp is CLOSED until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The most important area is the power line right-of-way. This area is located between the C.O.P.E. Course and the Red Barn/parking area, on the left as you enter camp. The right-of-way goes all the way up the hill to the shooting range. The power line is energized and can be dangerous.  The terrain at the base of the hill gets very muddy (practically a bog) when it rains. There is also a wildlife food plot located at the top of the hill that is off limits.

The barn and shed (behind the Mess Hall) are off limits to camp visitors, unless given specific permission to access equipment prior to your visit (only needed if you are doing a Service or Eagle Project).

There are several ‘tree cages’ scattered around the Mess Hall and Parade Ground area. The Foundation is participating in a project to repopulate the American Chestnut Tree. These cages contain the new growths. Look in the Mess Hall for directions for watering these trees during your visit.

Up the hill from the Mess Hall is the site of the original cabin. It is located in the woods, and should be considered off limits for safety purposes.

Camp Big Mac is not at ATV park. Please do not bring ATV’s or dirt bikes to camp.

At no time are visitors’ personal vehicles allowed on any of the trails or fire access roads. Do not take vehicles off the gravel roadways as their use leads to heavy erosion. No camp site or cabin is located beyond reasonable walking/hiking distance.
